Memory improvement in aging as a function of exposure to mood-matching music

This study examined the effect of matching musical emotion and mood listener on working memory free recall in normal aging. Memory measures were taken at baseline healthy young older participants, and, following a happy or sad induction, again after exposure to both mood-matching -mismatching music counterbalanced repeated design. Compared baseline, [i] was greater than mood-mismatching groups, reduced adults, [ii] condition, but did not differ from mismatching condition. The results have significant implications for increasingly popular forms intervention involving used with populations experiencing cognitive decline.
